JOHN PAUL THURLOW

Years ago in an ELLE magazine I came across this Biro Drawing -

This stunning piece of art is by John Paul Thurlow

His biro pen covers of magazine covers are amazing! After shading the image, he scribbles and personalises over the drawing adding a unique aspect to his art.

I believe he should be more known in the art and fashion industry because his work is something different and links art and fashion which is always a clever mix.

DAY TRIP

Went on a little test run of commuting to Kingston University today, went fine, hopefully the one and a half hour train journey will give me a chance to keep my blog up to date!!

Out Of Order, By David Mach
Old London Road, Kingston

After a wander around Kingston, we went to V&A, saw this strange display of white traffic cones hanging outside of the V&A entrance, which looked really good! Turns out it is by the Heatherwick Studios which was really exciting to see some more of his work inside.

Thomas Heatherwick is a current influential designer, best know for his recent design for the London 2012 Olympic Games, the iconic cauldron. His unique 3D work is very inspiring.

Powerscope, by Dave Chihuly.

Outside the Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert sculptor Tony Cragg has a collection of sculptures displayed around the museums. http://www.tony-cragg.com/

(own photographs)

I studied Tony Cragg in a past art project for my A Levels, I find artists that use nature to inspire sculpture very interesting because there are so many different inspirations to draw from in nature such as the textures, colours, forms and shapes. I would love to use nature to inspire some fashion pieces, looking at textures in particular.

GEORGIA HARDINGE

Whilst doing an internship at Trace Publicity - @TRACEPublicity for Mens Fashion Week I discovered some designers and fashion brands which Trace represent such as Jean-Pierre Braganza, Georgia Hardinge, Steve Madden, and Maryling. A designer which really intrigued me was Georgia Hardinge - http://www.georgiahardinge.co.uk/collections-aw12.php  I did some research on her after pulling some of her garments for stylists. Inspired by geometric forms, creating sculptural and abstract collections. I relate to her style of design, like her architectural pieces and simplicity of the garments yet still dramatic. My favourite collection of hers is the AW12 "INVERTED". Her print technique to scrape away at Acrylic, inspired by artist Rachael Whiteread.

HOUSE SITTING

Whilst doing a bit of house sitting I recognise an original canvas of the Eiffel Tower by Paul Kenton -  http://www.paulkenton.com/ . In his very contemporary and abstract version of the iconic Parisian landmark there is Kenton's trademark hint of red acrylic amongst the black and white smudges, in this case the red coat. I had seen some of Kenton's work previously in an art gallery on South Molten Street, London.

After finding this treasure I went on to find this unusual piece up on the wall........

(own photographs)

Does anyone know who this is by??? or where is it from!? So simple but looks amazing on the wall, creates awesome shadows and the graduating colours of green are stunning against the white wall!

BACK TO SCHOOL

After a long long summer I'm off to Kingston University to study Fashion!!! This is my first blog..... so let me introduce myself:

Heya, this is me, Lily. Heres some random facts -

1. As my blog name suggests I do live in my own little bubble which is jammed packed with fashion, I love it.
2. I have a keen interest in music, got back a couple of days ago from Reading Festival (was AMAZING as usual) Totally obsessed with Florence and the Machine. Her style is awesome and her music just as awesome! http://www.florenceandthemachine.net/index

(own photographs)

Seen Florence 3 times this year, at the Ally Pally, Hackney Weekend and Reading, her sets have been incredible everytime, a magical atmosphere.

3. Ornithophobia - irrational fear of birds. (note no photograph)
4. I'm a dreamer therefore have a Life List (bucket list) of random things I want to do/see/experience. It's constantly growing, always making little notes when inspired by something. Check out my list on Pinterest and follow my board to see it grow! http://pinterest.com/23lily/life-list/
5. I have a cutie dog, most fashionable dog ever.

(own photographs)

Her name is Roxy, definitely a pampered pooch.

6. LONDON is my favourite place on Earth. Inspiring/Shopping/Food/Parks/Celebspotting/Underground/Museums/HistoricBuildings/TelephoneBoxes/Architecture/LondonStyleIsTheGreatest

Love my friends.

8. I love photography particularly Black and White Photographs, one of my bedroom walls is covered in Black and White Photographs in a variation of black frames. I always print my photos so I can keep the memory forever the old fashioned way.
9. I'm a hoarder, I hate throwing things away. I have collected stuff since I was 8, you never know when something might become useful. From Coke bottles, receipts, maps, notes, bags, magazold clothes.....you name it I've got it in my draw.
10. In 1997 I Open Heart Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital due to two holes in my heart, considering how young I was a remember most of it and apart from the actual operation, the getting ready and getting better was made fun by the GOSH Staff. I have done a few charity bits to raise money for the charity and I hope to do more! http://www.gosh.org/gen/donate/dm-landing-pages/special-1/

Hope you enjoy my blog :)
